Thomas' Poster Progress

During the production of my poster, I decided to have my poster portrait. Therefore when opening a new document, I put the requirements needed for an A4 sheet of paper in portrait position.

The font I have used is 'Badaboom' as this was chosen earlier from font research. I felt that this font showed similar connotations to comedy films due to the the font being basic in style. Using 'Badaboom' came about from further research developed from analysing professional products which films have a similar genre to ours as we felt as a group we wanted to create a font which was similar to other successful professional products, this will therefore give our products similar connotations as these which represent the comedy film genre. The use of red, also researched in the font research, was used again due to our research into various professional products as many films we researched including 'Superbad' and 'Drillbit Taylor'. These included thick bold font in red. Our group felt that the use of red would be best suited to our film due to this and our personal opinions.

I decided on including a review on this film poster as using this will be very effective in attracting audience appeal. I believe that having a review will work much better instead of including sell lines for our film as our film does not have the big-budget like many professional films have, therefore having a magazine review may help in promoting our film to the audience. The font is again written in red with the style 'Badaboom' to help fit together and not look unappealing. I decided on having 'Star Magazine' written in black font as I didn't want the whole film poster to use red font as it will look unattractive and dull which will not work when attracting the attention of the audience.

Putting five stars helps give an idea to the audience of what to expect from the film. The five stars will help generate a positive response from the audience as the film has been received positively and that has been reflected through the use of the five stars.

Many film posters include the credits at the bottom of the poster, I found this due to research into other professional products. I decided that if I wanted my film poster to look professional, I would therefore have to include one of my own on the film poster. Due to the credits not having much significance into the film, I followed other professional products by deciding to have the credits located at the bottom of the film poster.

This is the overall layout of my film poster. This is just a draft and isn't the actual products. I still need to organise a photoshoot of our groups actors with the best photo taken being used on this film poster to help promote it. Looking at the 'Moving On Up!' text, I decided to have this located in the top left corner as the audience are more drawn to the left, therefore the film's title will hopefully be what the audience notices first. Also, I dcided to have the text rotated about 30 degrees counter-clockwise as I felt that having the writing just in a straight line would look less appealing and simple, therefore having the text slightly rotated would help make it seem more of a comedy film and much more appealing to the audience. The review is located in the top right of the film poster, I felt that this review will help play a vital role in selling the film and that is the reason for its position as the audience tend to look top to bottom of a film poster. Again, the credits are located at the bottom of the film poster due to the insignificance it has to the audience but I have included the credits to make my products much more professional.

After adding all the text onto my film poster, I decided to add the release month and year to my film poster. I dd this to help create excitement and nervousness among the audience as the arrival of the film to cinemas is drawing closer. I decided to locate the release month and year at the bottom of the page as I felt that the boldness and distinctiveness of the font would help draw attention to it. Also, I believed that the release month and year were not as significant in comparison to the film's title and the review which will help sell the film.

When creating the text for the release month and year, I tested both red and black as colours for the text. I felt that these two colours would be the best suited for my products due the continuity it has amongst the other writing featured on the film poster. I prefer having the red font, similar to the 'Superbad' film poster as I believe it attracts more of an audience than the black font does. Also, having the credits written in black helps having the release month and year written in red as it makes it much more enterprising to the audience.

These are the two drafts of my film poster, the only difference is the colour of the text of the release month and year on each product. As discussed eariler, I prefer having the red font as it contrasts from the credits black which will help attract the audience to it, however I am keeping my options open until the photoshoot has been done and an image has been chosen for my film poster as I want the font that would look best with the image. However, I intend of having my photoshoot in the Media Studio with a white background. If my plans and aims work, I believe the red would be a better option to use instead of the black font again this supports my opinion.
