Magazine cover- Planning our cover (Brief)
Magazine Cover:
Above is the flat plan for our magazine front cover.
We decided firstly for our masthead to be called "Star" because it is fairly simple and mimicks a lot of film magazines out there who have gone for a mono-syllabic name, this will be helpful to remember our name. We also looked into different fonts and decided that "Urban Sketch" would be best and therefore we will use this one. (An image of "Urban Sketch" can be found in the font research). We felt personally that it's a good font to use because it can be made to look bold whilst also having some subtlty and therefore not over powering our magazine. The small star inside the mast head would have to be made seperately, however we thought it would add a bit of creativity to the mast head as opposed to solely being words. At the moment we're not entirely certain about the colour of this, however looking into actual products it is often a read colour or something different, however as we plan on using red elsewhere on the cover we may use a grey.
For the main sell line we decided to use a sperate font to the ones which would be used on the other sell lines. This was because for our main sell line we thought that we could use the font that we had for the poster for continuity and focus on the magazine to our film. We had noticed this on other magazine covers also and therefore thought we should mimick it.
For the rest of the sell lines we plan to use a simple font and then it will be clear to read. They will be spaced around our main image also. In terms of colour we have found that often red was used or other forms of bold colours to they stand out on the page.
For the puff at the bottom we noticed that often it was a list of films seperated with some form of bullet point. For ours we decided to mimick this list effect and then instead of using a bullet point we could use small stars to seperate each one just to follow on from the title and make it look a bit more interesting.
For our main image we noticed that firstly it is generally only on of the characters, so we decided we would use our main geek for this shot and have him on a medium close up looking star struck into the camera, dressed in the geek style comstume. This idea is replicated from other magazines where they have shot the character posing how they would in the film. The background will just be a plain one at the moment, as we have seen this used in other magazines also as opposed to a busy background.
